Discovery in the basement: Historical restaurant bill is surprising!

Gelsenkirchen, Deutschland - Patrick Barciaga, operator of the “snack bar at the shaft” in Herten, recently made a remarkable discovery: On December 29, 2019, he found old family documents in the basement of his snack bar. Among these was an invoice from the former Ostrops-Hof restaurant in Gelsenkirchen on January 20, 1968. This calculation provides interesting insights into the gastronomic prices of past times.

The invoice documents the sale of six "gypsy schnitzel" of 6 DM each, three mushroom toasts of DM 4.50 and various drinks. In addition, the price for a glass of beer was only 50 pfennigs. The 10% VAT specified on the invoice was added, so that the total amount was DM 62.70. This information impressively illustrates how several main courts, starters and drinks were offered for this price. It is worth noting that the Ostrops-Hof restaurant has not existed for seven years.
