A40 and A52: Massive closures in the Ruhr area from October!

The traffic situation in the Ruhr area faces a major challenge, because from October 17, 2024, important sections of the A40 and A52 motorways will be blocked. These measures are necessary to renovate the road covers that extend over an area of 95,000 square meters. A special feature of this work is the use of "whisper asphalt", which ensures that the noise level is reduced in road traffic. This will particularly improve the quality of life of the residents in the area.

The closures affect the section of the A40 between the Essen Center and Gelsenkirchen-Süd in the direction of Dortmund. In the A52, the area between Essen-Berghausen and the Essen-Ost motorway triangle will be affected in the same direction. These restrictions will last until October 24, 2024, 11:30 p.m.

closures and diversions for drivers

The effects of these closures are considerable. Drivers are diverted at various junctions such as Essen-Zentrum-West and Essen-Huttrop because they are completely blocked. In addition, the A40 is also blocked in both directions by Bochum until at least in mid -November.

To master the traffic flows, there are specific diversions. The traffic on the A40 can be diverted from the Kaiserberg motorway junction via the A3 towards Oberhausen. Vehicles below 3.5 tons use the route via the A42 in the direction of Dortmund, while heavier vehicles have to arrive on the A2. With the A52, the detour is already set up at the Essen-Süd junction.

weather -dependent shifts possible

Autobahn GmbH pointed out that the planned work could be dependent on the weather. If rain occurs, the closures could be postponed. In this case, the time frame could extend to spring 2025. In addition, further closures for the A40 are already being planned for Duisburg, the start of which is expected to be set in the summer of 2025.

These diversions and all other changes associated with it certainly ensure inconvenience in traffic. Drivers who travel through the Ruhr area should prepare well and consider alternative routes. Additional information on the diversions and other relevant developments are currently available, as reports www.24rhein.de .
