The Weilerswist Zero initiative initiated an exciting dialogue about the pressing climate catastrophe on Thursday in the auditorium of the comprehensive school. "We want to work with future pictures instead of arising to the fear of the inevitable," said Barbara Lehmann-Detscher, the 54-year-old fundraiser and driving force behind the initiative. The group, consisting of committed citizens, relies on an open exchange without political prejudices to make the community sustainable.

The event was a real magnet! There were books on the climate catastrophe on a table, and the participants were encouraged to become active. The book "Future Images 2045", which shows visions for a better world, was particularly inspiring. Michael Detscher, the husband of Barbara, has created futuristic pictures of Weilerswist, which were hung on the windows of the auditorium. These pictures should stimulate thought and show what the community could look like in the future - from green residential areas to solar systems at the train station.

The exchange with politics was a central topic of the event. Mayor candidate Dino Steuer from the CDU and other party colleagues were present. Darius Ortmann, a member of the initiative, emphasized the urgency of action: "We already had the climate catastrophe in the basement." Those present passionately discussed the responsibility of each individual and the role of politics in climate protection. Tax admitted that many decisions were long overdue and demanded a high level of awareness of the citizens for upcoming measures.

Another exciting proposal came from the CDU parliamentary group: A photovoltaic system on the town hall should cover the energy requirements of the municipality and supply the new electric cars with electricity. In the meantime, the municipality of Weilerswist diligently distributes narcissus onions to the citizens in order to continue planting in recent years. With 15,000 onions in the hands of the inhabitants, the green future of the community is further consolidated!
