Police clears Cologne Christmas market: Abnlos suitcase provides an alarm!

At the weekend, abandoned suitcases on two Cologne Christmas markets caused excitement and at least temporary evacuations. According to Radio Euskirchen , the security personnel discovered a suitcase on Rudolfplatz on Saturday evening, which caused the police to leave the area immediately. The area was cordoned off until a specialist arrived at the defusing service.

The measures that are also part of a proven concept to ensure security on Christmas markets triggered a cautious and orderly evacuation, reports FOCUS . Another incident occurred on Sunday evening when a suitcase at Heumarkt required similar safety precautions. In both cases, the all -clear sounding after the police officers only discovered bags with sand. An alleged plan to trigger a large police operation, as well as possible connections to the drug or drinking scene were found in the reporting.

The security situation at Cologne Christmas markets remains tense, especially after the incidents in advance, in which a 17-year-old was arrested on a Christmas market due to a planned terrorist attack. Despite the security measures, visitors were generally calm and the mood during the evacuation actions remained prudent.
