Art in the crossfire: Roman Marcellus Castenholz inspires Euskirchen
Kölner Straße, 53879 Euskirchen, Deutschland - in the heart of Euskirchen, in the FZKKE (Förderkreis für contemporary art in the district of Euskirchen e.V.), a fascinating work of art of the talented novel Marcellus Castenholz from Weilerswist unfolds. As soon as you enter the exhibition space, you are surprised by a striking cross from adhesive tape on the gray tiles, which draws visitors into a deeper examination of the artist's living environment.
The crosses that are present in many of his works reflect castle at the Catholic St.-Ursula high school in Brühl and his continuing occupation with the question of God. "I bend before God, but not in front of a political system. I want to work ideologically," explains the 57-year-old. His works, the erotic drawings, religious topics and combining the examination of evil, offer a wild mix that stimulates thinking.
an exorcism of creativity
A special highlight of the exhibition is an installation in which an orange rope hangs from the ceiling to the floor and lays down over silver waterbags with 30 liters of capacity. These water containers, which are intended for emergencies, symbolize a kind of exorcism for Castenholz by heading negative energy into the containers. "I love not to coordinate compatible topics. I enjoy it," says the artist, who studied at the Rhein-Sieg-Kunstakademie in Bonn and is intuitively painting his pictures.
The exhibition can be seen until January 6, 2025 and offers a unique insight into the world of thoughts of Castenholz, which understands his works as snapshots of his mood and thoughts. A visit is worthwhile to immerse yourself in the fascinating and often provocative world of his art.
