Bicycle service for the needy: Zülpich's volunteers help on site
Obergartzem, Deutschland - In Zülpich, the need for bicycle repairs is greater than ever. This was recently noted by Theo Tröser, who, together with his colleagues from the Evangelical Church, will organize old bicycles for needy people. But the range of repair options in the region is very limited. Tröser mentions that many people who want repairs often come across the shrinking service offers. An annoying dilemma for those who have already bought a bike from an online retailer or other shops and are now facing the problem that their inquiries come to deaf ears.
The real challenge in Zülpich is the almost non -existent cycling workshop that offers repairs for all bike types. "There is only us for the needy and the business of Jörg Schumacher, which only repairs the self -selling bikes," says Tröser. This poses great difficulties for many people because they can not only rely on the “emergency service” of the church. According to Tröser, there is a lack of time, staff and space. "We all work here on a voluntary basis," he continues, which makes the Situation considerably more difficult.
growing demand and innovative solutions
The idea of founding a new workshop was meanwhile taken up by Sascha Tendler from Schöneeiffen. The 50-year-old noticed the gap in the bicycle workshop landscape and decided to become active himself. "I founded my workshop because I was looking for my own bike after a repair date and didn't get anyone," he said. Tendler has a team that takes on almost every kind of bicycle, but rejects bikes bought by the discounter due to their low quality. "In the case of cheaper models, diagnosis and the exchange of parts are simply much more complicated," he explains.
The need for further hobby screwdrivers is becoming increasingly clear. "If there are really so many bikes and the workshops cannot take care of everything, we need more people who are willing to help volunteer or part -time," says Troens. In his opinion, the city of Zülpich would have to actively offer support to increase the capacity for bicycle repairs.
A ray of hope for cyclists in the area offers the ADAC North Rhine, which recently opened a bike service station at Krewelshof in Obergartzem. This station is designed for smaller repairs and is available around the clock regardless of membership. Equipped with all the necessary, from screwdrivers to the air pump, it offers an uncomplicated solution for cyclists who quickly need help.
With the aim of setting up a total of 28 such stations in the Cologne and Düsseldorf region by the end of the year, the ADAC shows that awareness of the increasing need for bicycle service is growing. These stations present a step in the right direction, as they significantly improve access to necessary tools and thus reduce the number of repair requests that are widely unfulfilled.
Despite the improvements, the challenge for repair workshops remains. It remains to be seen whether the new initiatives will be sufficient to meet the increasing demand. Protecting the bike as an environmentally friendly means of transportation could be significantly promoted by more available repair options. according to an article on www.ksta The business is hesitant, but it will certainly be exciting to observe whether and how the picture in Zülpich and the surrounding area changes in the near future.
