Euskirchen sets a sign: bread bags against violence against women!

Euskirchen, Deutschland - On November 25th, the international day against violence against women, the brave employees of the Euskirchen women's advice center continue their impressive breadcrumbs! This campaign aims to draw attention to the pressing problem of domestic violence against women. Under the powerful motto "Violence does not come into the bag", numerous bakeries in the Euskirchen district and print important emergency numbers as well as information for affected women on the bread bags.

With the support of Barbara Brieden, the equality officer of the city of Euskirchen, the bags are filled with fresh alarms. The goal? A strong sign of solidarity and support for all women who suffer from domestic and sexualized violence. The women's advice center of the association "Women help women" emphasizes the urgency of this action and the need to raise awareness of this serious problem.

alarming statistics

The terrifying numbers speak a clear language: According to a current European study, around 30 percent of all women and girls aged 15 and over experience physical or sexual violence in a relationship at least once in their lives. In the district of Euskirchen, almost 300 women are looking for help every year to free themselves from the spiral of violence. Violence often begins gradually with devaluing and threats before turning into physical attacks. For many women it is an enormous challenge to break away from such violent relationships, and the effects often affect children and adolescents who live in a climate of fear.

Ida Prinz-Hochgürtel, wife of the diocese of Aachen, distributed 10,000 bread bags in the bakeries in the south of the Euskirchen district. It emphasizes that domestic violence is also an often concealed topic in rural regions such as the Eifel. "The harmony in male -shaped village communities is often evaluated higher than the fate of women and children," she explains. Ellen Mende from the women's counseling center urgently appeals to relatives and neighbors: "Look! The number of unreported cases is many times higher!"
