Critical infrastructure: New law is intended to secure care in Germany!
Berlin - Red Red for Germany's critical infrastructure! This Wednesday, the cabinet decides on a groundbreaking draft for a “Charitis roof Act” that sets strict rules for the protection of energy companies, airports and other essential facilities. If you don't stick to it, you have to expect sensitive fines. In the future, all operators will be obliged to create their security plans and report incidents immediately.
But what is behind this law? The critical infrastructure includes eleven vital sectors, including energy, transport, healthcare and drinking water. These facilities provide over 500,000 people and are indispensable for the entire supply in Germany. In the future, operators must have an eye on all potential dangers, be they natural disasters, human failure or even sabotage files. The new legislation aims to strengthen the resilience of these sectors and to promote cross -sectoral cooperation.
EU requirements in focus
The draft law also implements the EU directive, which should have gripped in October 2024. Now operators of critical facilities should register by July 17, 2026 at the latest on a joint platform from the Federal Office for Population Protection and the Federal Office of Security in Information Technology. By May 2027 you have time to implement necessary protective measures. The regulations concern both state and private companies that are responsible for supplying electricity, water and other vital goods. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) is determined to ensure the security of these important infrastructures.
