WSW Rostock: Waterball players start the new season strongly!
Neukölln, Deutschland - The WSW Rostock starts the new season of the 2nd Wasserbail Bundesliga of the women. Last weekend, the Rostockers showed that they are ready to participate in this league under the direction of coach Norbert Stübert, after targeted reinforcements from the 1st Bundesliga. The goalkeeper and captain Charlotte in particular gave the team a strong support, which became clear in their first game against the surprise team ASC Duisburg. Despite a just under 6: 9 start, the team was able to shine in the second game and celebrated a spectacular 11: 9 victory over SV Bayer Uerdingen, where she scored the decisive goal in the last second, like Nordkurier reported.
Another highlight from Rostock comes from the U12 team, which almost won the bronze medal at the final tournament around the German Cup 2020 in Stuttgart. Coach Uwe Richter led his team, which competed without external reinforcements, against strong opponents such as Cannstatt, Hanover and Nuremberg. The WSW against Nuremberg fought the decisive struggle for bronze, in which the Rostockers led to the third quarter. Unhappy referee decisions, however, led to a narrow 10:11 loss. Despite the missed podium, there was a copper for the U12 medals, which did not cloud the kids for long. The WSW striker Marian Kob was chosen with 13 goals as the second best goal scorer of the tournament, which gives him good chances of a place in the youth national team, as WSW Rostock impressively found.
These two events show the strength and potential of the WSW Rostock and its teams in the sports landscape. Both the women and the young teams make it clear that they are willing to assert themselves in the national water polo scene.
