Israel starts ground offensive against Hisbollah - is there a new war?
Tel Aviv (dpa)-The situation in Lebanon has dramatically worsened because Israel launched a soil offensive against the Hezbollah militia. This was announced early Tuesday morning via platform X by the Israeli army. According to precise secret service information, Israel has started with targeted and localized attacks on military goals and infrastructures of the Hisbollah in the South Libanon. These military facilities are located near the border and represent a direct threat to the Israeli communities in Northern Israel.
As part of this offensive, the Israeli Air Force works closely with the artillery to carry out precise attacks on strategic locations in the crisis area. The army reaffirmed that they would do everything they can to ensure the security of its citizens and to enable the return of around 60,000 Israelis, which were expelled from their homeland due to the persistent attacks by the Hisbollah.
intensive military conflicts
This offensive follows a number of serious attacks, with Israel attacking a variety of destinations in Lebanon in the past few days. According to reports from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, hundreds of dead and injuries can already be complained about. The Hisbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and several of his fighters died on Friday.
The Israeli broadcaster Kan reports that the main focus of the operation is on the elite units of the Hisbollah. In contrast to conquering areas, it is not about territorial demands, but about the destruction of specific military goals. Israel pursues this detailed strategy in order to weaken the militia fighting power sustainably and thus help their own citizens to protect and security.
withdrawal of the Lebanese armed forces
Before the offensive, the Lebanese army reported its soldiers from the border. Signs indicate that the ruling armed forces of Lebanon, who are under enormous financial pressure, are severely restricted in their ability to act. It is known that the Lebanese armed forces are underfunded and that they are largely dependent on military aids from the United States to maintain their operations.
The situation is tense because tens of thousands of Lebanese had to leave their villages and cities and many are looking for refuge in the capital. The presence of refugees in emergency accommodation tightens the already difficult humanitarian situation in the country, which suffers from the scars of earlier conflicts, including the last war with Israel 18 years ago. The deputy Hezbollah boss Naim Kassim announced that the group would be prepared for a long conflict and would continue the fight against Israel until the Gaza War ended.
The current developments make it clear how complex and networked the conflicts in the Middle East are, in particular the battles between Israel and the militias supported by Iran such as the Hezbollah and Hamas. The international community observes the events with concern, while regional tensions continue to rise.
