Tax shock in NRW: Property tax B increases drastically in many municipalities!
In North Rhine-Westphalia, the municipalities have raised the rate of property tax B until June 30, 2024! A total of 43 percent of the municipalities have increased the tax for undeveloped and built -up properties, which directly affects the citizens in the affected regions. While 173 municipalities started the lifting rate over the values of the previous year, 222 municipalities remained stable. The only exception: Büren in the Paderborn district, where the rate was reduced by one percentage point.
The trend is alarming! Compared to previous years, the number of municipalities that have increased the rate has risen sharply. While in 2022 and 2023 only about a quarter of the municipalities screwed on the wheel, it was only every tenth community in the Corona years 2020 and 2021. In contrast, over 200 municipalities had even increased the rate in 2015 and 2016. The numbers show that the municipalities are increasingly relying on higher income!

The lowest lifting rates can be found in Verl (170 percent), Holte-Stukenbrock Castle (280 percent) and Monheim am Rhein (282 percent). In contrast, the highest sentences in Niederkassel, Alfter (995 percent) and Xanten (965 percent) are in stark. The municipalities determine the lifting rates themselves, which has a direct impact on the tax revenue. The deadline for increases ends on June 30th, after that only reductions are possible. The numbers come from the quarterly cash statistics of the second quarter.
