Special letter is celebrating the Jewish legacy of Schum-Stätten in Speyer!
Speyer, Deutschland - In a solemn presentation on December 6th, a special Special letter mark presented that the Schum-Stätten Speyer, Worms and Mainz appreciates. This stamp, designed by Professor Jens Müller from Düsseldorf, bears a value of 85 cents and is now offered in all branches of Deutsche Post AG. With a circulation of one million copies, the brand is intended to highlight the rich history of the Jewish communities in Germany and Europe. The initiative, which led to the creation of this stamp, goes back to Monika Fuhr, the representative for Jewish life in Rhineland-Palatinate, and Speyer's Mayor Stefanie Seiler.
Schum site: A sign against anti-Semitism
The Schum sites have played an important role in Jewish history and have been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021. They not only represent the first heyday of Judaism in Germany between the 11th and 14th centuries, but are also known as the "cradle of Ashkenazic Jewish Life Tradition". According to estimates, these sites represent important reference points for the development of Jewish culture and community structures based on the legal positions of the communities that were issued in the 13th century. These traditions are also reflected in architecture and the cultural heritage that the Schumstätten left, such as the ritual diving bath of the Speyer Mikwe or the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery in Worms, known as the "Holy Sand", the gravestones from the 11th century, as well as the first traditional women's synagogue.
The Prime Minister of Rhineland-Palatinate, Alexander Schweitzer, was optimistic about the importance of this stamp and emphasized that it sends a strong signal against anti-Semitism. During the presentation, numerous representatives of Christian churches and Jewish communities participated in order to underline the importance of Jewish life in the region and to bring the historical connection of the Schum sites into the awareness of the generations living today. Through the exhibition of this special letter mark, the importance of Jewish life and its cultural inheritance in today's Rhineland-Palatinate and Germany is also accentuated, such as Wikipedia> Wikipedia reported .
