Scandal about OVG President: NRW Justice Minister grants mistakes!
Münster, Deutschland - A scandal shakes the judiciary in North Rhine-Westphalia! The procedure for the appointment of the President of the Higher Administrative Court of Münster must be re -rolled up after Justice Minister Benjamin Limbach (Greens) had to admit a "remarkable mistake" when assessing the favorite candidate. This decision comes after a year full of controversy and throws a shadow on the integrity of the judiciary. "That annoys me!" Says Limbach, who now wants to initiate the updated assessments of the remaining applicants.
The opposition is horrified! SPD and FDP speak of "serious damage to the judiciary". SPD parliamentary group leader Jochen Ott calls for the immediate dismissal of Limmach, while FDP spokesman Werner Pfeil speaks of a "swamp of legal violations" in which both the interior and the Ministry of Justice are involved. The reason for this turmoil? A serious failure to assess the CDU candidate who maintains close relationships with Limbach. Her extremely positive assessment, created by State Secretary Daniela Lesmeister, has now been exposed as a "top mark on order".
incorrect assessment and withdrawal of the State Secretary
Lesmeister had failed to include the former supervisor of the applicant in the assessment, which violates internal guidelines. After massive criticism of the opposition, she had to withdraw her assessment. The Higher Administrative Court of Münster expressed "considerable doubts" about the legality of the decision, while an inferior applicant complained to the Federal Constitutional Court and accused Limbach of violating the principle of "best selection".
The SPD is now calling for Lesmeister's resignation, but Interior Minister Herbert Reul is behind his confidants. Limbach also evades the demands for resignation: "I see no reason there," he emphasizes, assuring that he is "fun". While the discussion about the reputation of the presidential office in Münster continues, it remains unclear whether further applications will be received. Limbach rejects the demands for a complete new advertisement of the position as illegal and faces critics in the state parliament. "I don't have the impression that the focus turns away from me," he explains confidently.
