In a significant development for European freight transport, the Helrom company has expanded its route network with a new connection between Düsseldorf and Budapest. This measure aims to optimize the intermodal transport of semi -trailers and to promote sustainable transport solutions.

From October 2, 2024, forwarders can use this 1,200 kilometer route to deliver their truck trailers until late in the evening. The efficient logistics ensure that the trailers are only available for collection after only 30 hours, which guarantees quick processing of the transports. This connection is particularly attractive for companies that value reducing their CO₂ emissions, with savings of up to 90 percent.

flexibility for freighters

An outstanding feature of this new route is the flexible booking option. Helrom offers open trains in which companies can reserve fixed capacities as required. This also enables small and medium -sized companies to use intermodal transport without having to invest in their own capacities. 36 trailers can be transported per train, which means a weekly capacity of 432 truck trailers. Daily descents in both directions are planned for six days a week.

In addition, the catchment area not only includes Hungary and Slovakia, but also parts of Romania as well as the Ruhr area, Benelux and Great Britain. This will significantly expand the range for many companies and enable seamless access to important markets.

The importance of this development goes beyond ecological advantages. Helrom also promotes socially compatible working conditions in transport logistics. By connecting from road and rail transport, freight forwarders can plan more time for short lines, which not only increases efficiency, but also contributes to designing the working hours of the drivers more predictable. This change could also help counteract the current lack of driver that is a serious problem in the industry.

With this initiative,

Helrom shows how innovative transport not only can link ecological and economic advantages, but also improve the quality of life of the employees. This new connection is therefore not only a step towards sustainable freight transport, but also a significant commitment to employees in the industry.
