Massive flight cancellations: Warning strikes at German airports on Monday!

The situation at German airports is getting worse! The ver.di union has called a comprehensive warning strike at eleven airports in Germany for Monday to emphasize collective bargaining. This has a massive impact on air traffic, as Salzburg Airport confirms that all eight departures and seven landings to Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Düsseldorf will be canceled. According to Alexander Klaus, spokesman for Salzburg Airport, around 1,000 passengers are affected by these cancellations. In total, more than 3,400 flights are canceled in Germany, which is disrupting the plans of around 510,000 travelers DAY SHOW reported.

Strike brings airports to a standstill

The warning strike not only affects the major hubs such as Frankfurt, Berlin-Brandenburg and Munich, but also other important airports such as Stuttgart, Cologne/Bonn and Hamburg. Operations at these locations will be completely stopped on Monday, which will lead to massive delays and cancellations. Passengers are requested to contact their airlines in advance about rebooking options. The airport association ADV warns that the strike will cast a long shadow over air traffic and cause significant inconvenience for travelers.

At the heart of the conflict are the union's demands for an eight percent increase in wages or at least 350 euros more per month, as well as higher bonuses for stressful working hours. Wages for training allowances and intern salaries are to increase by 200 euros. These demands were rejected by the employers as unaffordable. There have already been strikes in other areas of the public service in the last few weeks, which is further inflaming the situation ORF reported.
