Köln, Deutschland - Cologne and Düsseldorf are the focus of massive protests against draconian cuts in the social sector. In Cologne, the social associations are alarm because the city's new draft budget, presented by Mayor Henriette Reker, shows serious financial bottlenecks for the next two years. The planned cuts endanger important social support programs that benefit from people in need, debt counseling and disabled help. In order to draw attention to the impending household cuts, associations such as AWO, Caritas and DRK mobilize a big demonstration on Thursday, December 12, which begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Deutz train station. Around 8,000 participants are expected, which will lead to traffic disruptions between Deutz and Cologne city center, such as Radio Erft
