Full closure of the A40 and A52: Massive detours in the Ruhr area!

In the Ruhr area, drivers face enormous difficulties! From October 17, not only the A40, but also the A52 between Essen and Gelsenkirchen will be completely blocked. The reason for the drastic measures is massive renovation work that lasts until October 24th. Commuters and travelers have to adjust to extensive diversions!

The affected sections are clearly outlined: on the A40 there is a blocking between the Essen-Zentrum and Gelsenkirchen-Süd, while the A52 from Essen-Berghausen to the Essen-Ost motorway triangle is affected by the full closure. The situation is even more complicated by the installation of "whisper asphalt" over a total of 95,000 square meters!

The closures have direct effects on the access roads in the region. The Essen-Center-West, Essen-Center-Ost, Essen-Huttrop, Essen-Frillendorf, Essen-Kray and Gelsenkirchen-Süd can no longer be reached! In addition, the A40 near Bochum will remain closed in both directions at least until mid -November. The traffic control center also specifies detailed detour routes that vary depending on the vehicle weight. For light vehicles below 3.5 tons, a detour guided via the A42 is recommended, while heavier trucks have to take large diversions via the A2 and A45!

And that's not all! Autobahn GmbH already warns of possible changes: heavy rains could lead to further shifts in the work and thus the full closures in spring 2025. The road on the A40 towards Duisburg is also renewed - a new wave of full closures could come to us in the summer of 2025! Now it is time to practice patience, because the situation in traffic remains tense!
