Drone album: Frequent incidents exposed to NRW airports!
Büren-Ahden, Deutschland - The number of incidents with drones at airports in North Rhine-Westphalia has increased significantly in recent years. This also applies to the Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport, where two reported disabilities were recorded last year. According to Radio Hochstift , more than 30 incidents were registered at various airports in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2024. Reports of drone sightings are forwarded directly and as quickly as possible to the police, since the climbing of a drone near an airport is considered a dangerous intervention in air traffic and represents a criminal offense.
In a report by the German Air Traffic Control (DFS), it was found that the number of "reported disabilities" by drones at large airports in North Rhine-Westphalia in 2024 increased compared to the previous year. A total of 26 incidents were registered in Düsseldorf, Cologne and Münster, while in 2023 only 18 such incidents were reported, such as n-tv reported. In Cologne in particular, there were the highest number with twelve incidents, followed by Düsseldorf with eleven and Münster with three incidents.
Details about regional airports
also occurred at the regional airports. Two incidents were recorded on Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport in 2024, which is an increase in 2023 compared to an incident. There were also two incidents at Dortmund Airport, while a new incident was registered in Mönchengladbach after no such was reported in the previous year. At Weeze Airport, on the other hand, it remained calm in 2024, as no drone incident was reported there after one was registered in 2023.
The strict regulations that prescribe a radius of 1.5 kilometers around airports should reduce such incidents and ensure security in air traffic.
