Dortmund's new ICE plant: 500 jobs and 400 million euros investment!

A gray sky and rain could not spoil the party mood when Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst, Mayor Norbert Schilf and DB-Fern transport board member Michael Peterson set the groundbreaking ceremony for the new ICE plant in Dortmund. With an impressive investment volume of around 400 million euros, a future -oriented project will be launched here, which should be completed by 2027. The starting shot was given between puddles and the flash of lightning of the cameras - a moment that is of great importance for the train and the city of Dortmund.

The new work will play a central role in maintenance, repair and cleaning of ICE trains. Up to 17 trains can be looked after in the state -of -the -art facility, where important maintenance work such as the exchange of brakes and air conditioning systems is carried out. The aim is to increase the availability of the ICE fleet and make rail traffic more reliable. In the long term, around 500 jobs are to be created here-positive news for the North Rhine-Westphalia region, which can look forward to new, well-paid positions.

location advantages and sustainability

The Dortmund location was chosen strategically because it lies conveniently and offers short distances to important ICE routes. Railway board member Michael Peterson emphasizes that Dortmund is a central railway junction in Germany and that the building permit was granted just half a year earlier than planned. But the work is not only a progress in mobility, but also a pioneer in sustainability. 100 percent of it is sustainably operated, with self -produced electricity from geothermal energy, sufficient for 2400 households. In addition, no new area is sealed because the work is being built on the site of a former marshalling yard, and the roofs are greened - an area of four soccer fields!

With this project, the railway sets a clear sign of the modernization of train traffic in Germany and plans to expand the fleet to 450 trains. To achieve this, additional capacities for maintenance and cleaning are essential, and the new work in Dortmund is an important step in this direction.
