Dortmund clears up: Free Christmas tree pick-up day on January 11th!

The city of Dortmund will pick up Christmas trees free of charge on Saturday, January 11, 2025. The citizens are asked to provide their trees on the roadside on Friday, Friday, January 10th. This pick -up date traditionally falls on the first Saturday after the day "Heilige three kings". In order to ensure smooth collection, the trees set up must be ready by 7.30 a.m. on the day of the collective.

It is important to note that early disposal of the Christmas trees is illegal as this can cause obstacles. Nevertheless, many Dortmund are disposing of their trees after New Year's Eve. Around 160 EDG employees (Disposal Dortmund GmbH) are in action for collection, supported by 24 voluntary initiatives. Last year around 286 tons, which corresponds to around 57,200 Christmas trees each 5 kg, were collected.

Information on collection and recycling yards

The EDG points out that Christmas trees can also be handed over to all six Dortmund recycling yards free of charge, both before and after the central collection date. So that the collection can be carried out properly, the trees may not be attached to trees or tree protection brackets and no decorations, lametta or transport packaging may remain on them.

The opening times of the recycling courtyards vary. General opening times are:

  • Monday: closed
  • Tuesday: 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Wednesday - Friday: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Saturday: 8 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.

As part of a model test, the recycling courtyard Hacheney in January has extended opening times:

  • Monday - Friday: 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 7 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
