Immigration in schools: NRW lists record numbers for students
In North Rhine-Westphalia, an alarming trend can be observed: The proportion of students with a history of migration has increased dramatically in the past five years! From only 37 percent in the 2018/19 school year, this number rose to astonishing 43 percent last year. More than a million of the 2.5 million pupils in North Rhine -Westphalia have foreign roots, as the State Statistical Office has revealed to the public.
particularly high values in the cities
The primary schools show an above -average proportion of children with a migration background with around 31 percent. But that's just the tip of the iceberg! In cities such as Wuppertal (58.6 percent), Duisburg (58.3 percent) and Gelsenkirchen (57.7 percent), pupils with immigration history are almost an absolute majority in the classrooms. Even Bielefeld exceeded the threshold of 50 percent with 51.9 percent!
In contrast,In contrast, the circles of Coesfeld, Borken and Euskirchen, where the immigration quota is 22.8 percent, 26.8 percent and also 26.8 percent - the school success of the migrant children is still in its infancy. In plain language: Instead of uniform school reality, the differences between the regions are enormous! But who is now recorded as a student with immigration history? It is all those who were born abroad or whose parents come from abroad - nationality does not matter.
