On November 4, 2024, at around 5:46 p.m., a shocking traffic accident occurred in Ascheberg. A car driver who was leaving the Park&Ride parking lot on Steinfurter Straße apparently overlooked an approaching truck. The impact was violent: the car was thrown with full force into a ditch!
Course of the accident and initial investigations
The Coesfeld police assume that the driver of the car was not able to correctly estimate the speed of the truck. The speed limit is 70 at this point and it remains unclear whether the truck driver adhered to this speed limit. After the collision, the airbags in the car were deployed, but the driver, whose identity has not yet been released, was lucky and only suffered minor injuries. However, to be on the safe side, he was taken to the hospital for a check-up.
The road had to be closed briefly while the fire department responded to clean up leaking radiator fluid. The accident caused a stir and shows once again how quickly dangerous situations can arise on the roads.
