Borken in the crisis: Schools overwhelmed by increasing refugee numbers!

in bark, the alarm bells ring! The first deputy and social director Norbert Nießing urgently warns: "We overwhelm the system. In any case, an orderly school company can no longer be maintained." The city's schools face a huge challenge, because more and more refugee children and young people are flocking into the classrooms. These children come from countries such as Afghanistan, Eritrea and Somalia, where education is often an unreachable dream.

The situation is dramatic: many of these children are illiterate and can neither read nor write. "We were assigned 80 children and young people this year alone. There are 71 illiterate. How should you teach the children properly if the most necessary?" Asks Nießing desperately. The schools in Borken, whether primary school, secondary school or high school, are forced to set up special support groups in order to meet these challenges.

increasing assignments and their consequences

The city of Borken currently has to take care of a total of 325 children and young people, and the number increases. The criticism is not directed against the refugees themselves, but against the growing number of people who do not have the necessary prerequisites for successful integration. Many are traumatized and come from completely different cultures. Despite the promises at the federal level of containing uncontrolled immigration, the number of allocations in Borken is increasing steadily. "In this dimension, this has not yet existed in Borken's history," emphasizes Nießing. The city raises the alarm and sees itself confronted with an unprecedented challenge.
