Revolutionary: Environmental cold as a solution for industry!

In an innovative project for sustainable cooling in industry, a new geothermal system at the location of Voltavision GmbH in Bochum is being developed. This future -oriented undertaking, which is coordinated by the Fraunhofer IEG, aims to replace conventional cooling, which in Germany is about 15 percent of total electricity consumption, with an environmentally friendly and resource -saving alternative. The Missellydemo project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection with around 2.8 million euros, is the focus of these efforts, as [Oekonews] reports.

The system will use a geothermal probe field to efficiently store and distribute cold. This technology is intended to reduce operating costs and significantly reduce CO2 emissions. With a constant demand of around 300 kW at moderate temperatures, it is expected that the integration of environmentally friendly cold can reduce power consumption by up to 53 %. In addition, a saving of over 62.5 tons of CO2 is sought per year. As a rule, conventional cold systems make up a significant share of electricity consumption. The project is intended to show how effortlessly regenerative energies can be integrated into industrial applications, according to [fraunhofer.de].

innovative technologies in use

The planned cooling is carried out by a sophisticated system that also uses the waste heat of production efficiently. Here, 30 to 40 geothermal probes are laid up to 100 meters deep into the ground. These probes make it possible to remove the cold from the surface and use them as a colder reservoir. By using environmental cold, energy efficiency can be significantly increased, which not only saves costs, but also benefits the environment. A combination of intelligent controls and innovative cooling methods is used to operate the systems at most efficiently.

The project is not only supported by the efficient science, but also by a strategic partner. Voltavision, a company that specializes in the development of climate -friendly technologies, is a crucial player in this initiative. Great progress is hoped for on the way to a climate-neutral operation, whereby the integration of the geothermal system is considered a significant step. The results of the project could have an impact on numerous industries and serve as a model for future sustainable cold systems.
