Bochum celebrates the first win of the season: Hope in the relegation battle!

Münster, Deutschland - In a turbulent week, the VfL Bochum finally celebrated its first win of the season in the Bundesliga. In the basement duel against 1. FC Heidenheim, the Bochumers prevailed 2-0 and thus ended a series of 15 mandatory games. Moritz Broschinski (7th minute) and Matus Bero (38th) provided the deserved goals in front of 24,328 spectators. These three points are particularly important because it reduces the gap to Heidenheim, which is now located directly on a relegation zone.

VfL Bochum, however, had a turbulent history. In the previous week, an outrageous incident occurred in the game against the 1. FC Union Berlin , when goalkeeper Patrick Drewes was hit by a lighter. This almost led to an abortion and brought the players' security into question. The referee had to interrupt the game in added time and send the teams to the cabins. Drewes suffered injuries in the head area and had to be examined in the hospital, but was released the following day. The referee's decision to continue the game caused a lot of criticism and VfL Bochum is now planning to object to the evaluation of the game because they feel disadvantaged.

For Heidenheim, the match against Bochum was another setback, which marked its seventh league bankruptcy in a row. In view of the continuing difficulties at the end of the table, the situation for coach Frank Schmidt is becoming increasingly critical, especially since the distance to a direct relegation zone is now only two points. Despite the worrying situation, the hope at VfL Bochum remains alive due to the redeeming victory against Heidenheim, while Heidenheim is still under pressure.
