Hameln-Pyrmont: Why is the long-distance traffic falling by the wayside?
Hameln-Pyrmont. A storm of indignation bride! Deutsche Bahn (DB) has waved off Klipp and clearly when it came to the introduction of intercity trains from Berlin via Hameln to Unna. Despite the ambitious plans to double the number of rail users and winning five million new passengers, the Weserbergland falls by the wayside. The DB sees no future in long -distance transport for the region and refers to faster, demand -powered routes.
The history of the express trains through Hameln is long and rich. Since 1892 the D 31/32 was the first comfortable connection from Cologne to Berlin, which led over Hameln. But times have changed and the DB has decided that the route is not competitive with a maximum of 120 kilometers per hour. The travelers have to adjust to long switching times - up to an hour and more to reach a express train. A clear setback for the region that had hoped for better connections!
The cold shoulder of the DB
The DB argues that the long -distance traffic lines lead over the more lucrative routes and leaves Hameln left. "It is currently not intended to lead long -distance traffic connections between Paderborn and Hanover via Hameln," said a spokesman. This means that the region remains dependent on local transport, while smaller places are rewarded with better connections. The DB looks for the raisins and lets the citizens of Hameln stand in the rain!
A glimmer of hope could flash next year: Due to the construction site, some ICE trains will be led over Hameln. But even then the city is not taken into account as a stop. The train has made it clear that despite the diversions, no stop in Hameln is planned. Another example of the neglect of this important region in the German rail network!
