Winter onset in Aachen: 300 workers start full team!
Aachen, Deutschland - Winter has a feast under control! The first snow fell on Wednesday and the urban winter service immediately started his work with full strength. Around 300 committed employees have been in use for three in the morning to keep the city's streets safely. "This is a good time for us to test all processes again," said winter service manager Dieter Bohn. The snow remains, and that means: "full use" for the men and women in winter service!
around 1,200 streets in sight
The challenge is enormous! About 1,200 roads with a total length of 1,500 kilometers have to be cleared throughout Aachen. The priority is initially on the main traffic and thoroughfare as well as access to hospitals, schools and fire brigade guards. In addition to the large clearing vehicles, many workers are also on foot to ensure that every angle of the city remains accessible.
The city of Aachen appeals to the citizens to park their vehicles as close as possible to the edge of the road in the evening so that the stray vehicles can get through unhindered. In addition, property owners are legally obliged to remove snow and smoothness from the sidewalks. A clear call to cooperation, because only together can the city come safely through the winter!
