Fusion of the Protestant communities in Eschwege: A new way begins!

In 2025, a remarkable transformation will begin in the Protestant landscape of Germany. On January 1, the merger of the three Protestant communities in Eschwege will be carried out by the merger of the city church I and II, the resurrection community and the Kreuzkirche to the new "Evangelical parish of Eschwege". This decision was made in May of this year when the merger contract was signed. Pastor Nicola Feller-Dühr emphasized that this new beginning not only represents a legal measure, but also in-depth changes in all areas of community work will bring with it, as the Werra-Rundschau .

One of the significant changes concerns the confirmation training, which will no longer be designed in the future, but is to be designed over ten Saturdays. Pastor Joachim Meister explained that this new form of teaching should be more experience-oriented, similar to the popular confi camp. The worship structure is also being revised to react to the falling attendance. A closed conference in February 2025 is to discuss the new concepts, and the aim is to involve people in this review. The pastoral bodies will remain at first, but this will change if the desired reduction in parish offices is implemented.

fusion wave in Herzogenrath

Another important merger takes place in the Evangelical parish of Herzogenrath and the Evangelical parish of Merkstein. From January 1, 2018, the new “Evangelical Lydia community Herzogenrath” will be launched, such as the reports. Both communities have worked intensively together in recent years and are now planning closer cooperation. The name 'Lydia' was chosen to honor the first Christian in Europe, which also symbolizes the message of inclusion and togetherness in Europe.

The merger aims to maintain all previous locations in their own economic load -bearing capacity. Various measures are planned, including the merging of the municipal agencies and the formation of specialist committees. Both presbyteries will remain until the next election in 2020 and lead the new community, while the pulpit exchange should take place more frequently from September 2017. This laid a foundation for a promising future, the two communities open up new opportunities.
