Hamm, Deutschland - On January 5, 2025, Wilhelm Tigges celebrates his 70th birthday. From August 1, 1987 to January 31, 2018, he was the head of the Hamm fire brigade and is one of the longest -reigning fire departments in Germany. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the introduction of the emergency medical service and the construction of the main fire station on Hafenstraße and Wache 2 on Hohefeldweg. Tigges joined the volunteer fire brigade in Schwerte in September 1973 and completed a squad leader course in Ahlen-Brockhausen. He also studied architecture at the Technical University in Berlin.

Tigges' career led him over various stations, including his legal clerkship as a fire trainee at the Aachen professional fire brigade with the 2nd state examination as a fire assessor. In 1987 he started working with the Hamm professional fire brigade. In addition to his professional career, he also worked in training and took over the foundation and chair of the city fire brigade association Hamm in 1990. For his merits, the fire brigade badge in the Gold of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the German Fire Brigade Cross in Gold was awarded to him. Tigges, who is also active as a family man and in equestrian sports, has again worked as an architect and expert after leaving the fire department as a fire brigade manager.

honors and developments within the fire brigade

The Hamm fire brigade remains active in the community. Frank Stricker was appointed as a fire -fighting group leader of the Haaren extinguishing group for another six years. This certificate of appointment was presented by Wilhelm Tigges and Markus Krause, the Uentroper area leader. Deputy extinguishing group leaders, Werner Gerwin and Stefan Hiddemann, also remain in their offices for the next six years. The extinguishing group had unanimously voted for the managers before the official appointment.

At the same event, members were also honored for their long -term loyalty to the fire brigade. Ulrich Heitkemper honored Erich Hustadt for 50 years and Friedhelm Krause and Helmut Gerwin for 60 years of membership with a special award in gold. An honor for Wilhelm Korte is made up for because he could not take part in the service meeting.

Frank Stricker reported on an increase in alarms last year, which was a total of 65 missions. One reason for the increase was numerous storm inserts, in which, among other things, cellar pumped out and fallen trees were cleared by streets. In addition to the fire inserts and alarms from fire alarm systems, two fire security guards at events in Uentrop were also part of the operational statistics. District head Björn Pörtzsch and fire chief Wilhelm Tigges praised the work of the fire protection officers. A planned family day will take place on August 15th.
