Barrier -free local transport: 270 stops in the Aachen city region!
A revolutionary project for the Aachen city region takes shape! Over the next four years, over 270 bus stops between Aachen, Baesweiler and Monschau will be converted on barrier -free standard. Würselen in particular will benefit from this financial support, where a whopping 172 stops are made accessible to everyone!
conversion in Aachen and the surrounding area
In Aachen itself, there are 76 stops on the list for the conversion. This includes four stops on fire and eilendorf as well as three in the Grüner Weg industrial area and three in the districts of Laurensberg and Richterich. These massive investments bring a breath of fresh air to the mobility of the region!
innovative solutions for more accessibility
The modernization is not only visible by the redesign of the stops. Electronic display boards are installed to inform passengers about current departure times. In addition, curbs are lowered and special blind tours are introduced, which make it easier to get in for walking and visually impaired people. These measures are an important step towards inclusive mobility!
But the municipalities also have to contribute to their part: they are obliged to participate in the renovation with ten percent of the costs, almost 700,000 euros. There are over 2,000 bus stops in the Aachen city region that are served by ASEAG and other transport companies of the Aachen Transport Association (AVV). A big project that will change the future of mobility in the region sustainably!
