Wolfsburg is planning a major cycle path renovation: safety for cyclists in 2025!

Wolfsburg. From 2025, the city of Wolfsburg will invest heavily in cycle paths! The city is planning a comprehensive renovation of several badly damaged bike paths, and time is of the essence! The asphalt surfaces are in a catastrophic condition: cracks, deformations and breaks make the routes dangerous, bumpy roads for cyclists.

Five central cycle paths are affected, including the connecting path between Kölner Ring and Frankfurter Straße in Mitte-West and the cycle path along Heinrich-Heine-Straße in the city center. These renovations are not only necessary, but also overdue! The city has set aside a budget of one million euros per year to make the cycle paths safer and more comfortable.

Cycle paths for a greener future

“The maintenance and modernization of our cycle paths is an essential component for sustainable mobility in Wolfsburg,” explains city planning officer Kai-Uwe Hirschheide. With the major renovation, the safety of cyclists will be brought to the fore. The city of Wolfsburg wants to continually improve the conditions for cycling and promote the use of bicycles as an environmentally friendly alternative.

Depending on the extent of the damage, either a partial renovation or a complete renovation of the affected cycle paths will be carried out. However, the final results of the soil reports necessary for the decision are still pending. The Wolfsburg City Council will receive appropriate resolutions for cycle paths whose renovation costs exceed 300,000 euros. The future of cycling in Wolfsburg looks promising!
