VW under pressure: hundreds of employees before retirement!

In the middle of one of the biggest crises in the German Auto industry, the performance program is further tightened at Volkswagen (VW). The Wolfsburg car manufacturer plans to get rid of more than 1,500 employees, and this has already caused excitement among the employees. According to a report by the "Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung", some affected employees have already learned from their superiors that they have come into focus.

The corporate management relies on a strategy that should enable employees to voluntarily leave the company instead of pronouncing terminations. Employees from the years 1961 to 1964 are particularly affected, which had already received an offer at partial retirement in the past. VW hopes that these employees are now deciding to retire prematurely. However, details about the new offers that are to be made to those affected are not yet known. VW did not comment on this.

massive savings planned

The savings measures primarily concern employees in the indirect area, i.e. in the administration. VW has set itself the goal of reducing personnel costs by a total of 20 percent by 2026. In addition to premature retirement, the company also plans to offer termination contracts with severance payments and bundle tasks in order to further reduce the costs. These drastic measures are part of VW's efforts to assert themselves in a challenging market landscape and to secure competitiveness.
