VW under pressure: Union presents master plan against layoffs!
Wolfsburg, Deutschland - The situation at Volkswagen is heading! Labor closures and layoffs are in the room, while the dispute over the group's drastic savings plans continues. In a brave step, IG Metall and the works council have now presented their own master plan to save the struck car manufacturer. Works council chief Daniela Cavallo and IG Metall district manager Thorsten Gröger today want to present their visionary ideas in Wolfsburg to secure the future of VW.
Since the savings plans became known in September, Cavallo and Gröger have repeatedly asked the group to present a comprehensive concept for all locations. "We see many set screws where we can turn to reduce the costs without questioning entire locations," emphasized Cavallo. But VW has so far been guilty of a clear strategy. Now the union and the works council are doing everything they can to present a solution that secures the jobs in the long term and decidedly reject the wage cuts requested by VW.
The master plan 2035
The "Master Plan 2025 - 2030 - 2035" outlines central measures to improve product quality at Volkswagen. Cavallo emphasizes that the group can only be successful if it inspires customers with strong products. However, there are currently returns of decisions and delays on important projects, such as the highly expected electrical entry-level model ID.2, which is not to be launched until 2026.
Another focus is on technological leadership. "We need clear jumps in the areas of software and timely attempts," demands Cavallo. In addition, the complexity in the company has to be reduced and double work has to be reduced. "We are calling for a clear focus on the Volkswagen brand because it remains the core of the group," said Cavallo. During this crisis, it is crucial to invest courageously to set the course for the innovations of tomorrow. This is the only way to result in VW strengthened from this difficult phase!
