VW in the crisis: Employees have to expect salary cuts!
Stormy times at Volkswagen! The automotive giant is in a deep crisis and put the sail on austerity course. The employees feel the effects of this dramatic turn: employment security? Past! Wage cuts? Suddenly a hot topic! The German works are on the brink, and the VW board of Gunnar Kilian has urged the workforce for "cuts".
Usually the VW employees are looking forward to the collective bargaining with the IG Metall, who often rinse more money into the pockets of the employees. But everything is different this year! The group is fighting for survival and has only one goal: saving, saving, saving! In parallel to the collective bargaining, internal discussions are underway between the group management and the works council, which could decide on the future of Volkswagen. "With the participation, we are faced with a historical course for Volkswagen," says an internal message that is available to the "Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung".
"There is too much at stake"
In order to secure the future of the company, according to the board, the "willingness to accept cuts" is essential. What does that mean specifically? A possible reduction in salary by ten percent is in the room! Arne Meiswinkel, a leading head in the company, explains that this is necessary to get a "competitive level". Personnel costs at VW are far higher than those of the metal and electrical industry. But that's not all: the abolition of cash premiums and a reduced number of trainees and dual students are also on the list of measures.
Gunnar Kilian, the head of the HR in his letter, emphasizes the urgency of the measures: "We are not allowed to lose time, too much is at stake." The clock ticks and the future of Volkswagen hangs on the silk thread!
