Wittmund, Deutschland - The return of the Eurofighter to East Frisia is imminent! At the beginning of 2025, the first Eurofighter should land again at the Wittmund air force base. After years of construction work that started in 2019, the military airfield is now finally modernized and brought to the forefront.
A spokesman for the Air Force confirmed on Saturday that the renovation work is on the right track. The return of the Eurofighter from Laage, where they have been stationed since the beginning of 2022, will collapse with the completion of the work on the runway as well as the repair hall and a noise protection hall. When exactly the machines can take off again remains uncertain.

The comprehensive construction work at the military airfield has become necessary to bring the Eurofighter back to Wittmund. The move to Laage was a temporary measure that also affected the staff. The total costs for the modernization of the location amount to an impressive 725 million euros, and the work should last until 2032. The aim is to make Wittmund the most modern military airport in Germany.
