Majanko wins Plattsounds: Emotional victory for Wilhelmshaven band!

Lingen, Deutschland - The Wilhelmshaven band Majanko triumphed in Lingen at the "Plattsounds" final in Lingen, which is eagerly awaited! With her soulful ballad "De Nacht is still young", they not only delighted the audience, but also the jury, who chose the song for the best Low German song in 2024. In a competition that was characterized by loud guitars and strong contributions, the emotional sounds of Majanko prevailed and secured first place and prize money of 1,000 euros.

"I am surprised that we were able to convince with such an emotional number," said singer Majanko Bauer after the victory. He emphasized how important it was for him to contact his roots with his music and to evoke memories of his grandpa. The band provided an unforgettable evening in front of around 110 visitors in the old slaughterhouse and almost 560 spectators in the live stream. Grietje Kammler, who took part as a jury member for the first time, said that the decision was extremely difficult due to the high musical quality of the ten participating bands.

The jury, consisting of experienced musicians and experts, was impressed by the variety of genres, which ranged from rock to pop to punk and metal. Juror Ilka Brüggemann praised the exceptionally high musical quality and the modern perception of the Low German language through the bands. "Low German is not outdated, but cool!" Said Brüggemann. The competition, which was carried out as part of the "Platt Is Cool" campaign, is a cooperation project of nine landscapes and landscape associations from Lower Saxony and was organized this year by the Emsland landscape.
