Children's bike demo in Wilhelmshaven: Fight for safe streets!
In Wilhelmshaven, an important event recently took place, which should draw attention to the safety in bicycle traffic. The second children's bike demo gathered 30 participants, many of them children who wanted to send a clear signal for safe bike paths. The event was organized by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) in Wilhelmshaven, and Rathausplatz served as the starting point for the journey through the city.
The demonstration became an educational experience under the attentive eyes of the police, which provided the safety of little cyclists. "The demo showed the children how nice and easy to ride a bike if they can safely use the street," remarked Volker Hasenmüller, the chairman of the ADFC district association. This was more than just a simple journey - it was an important message: the streets are there for all road users, including the cyclists.political absence is criticized
Despite the positive support from the population, there were also critical voices among the participants, who complained that many political representatives were absent in the demo. The impression was given that only a "hard core" of supporters was present - a group that is ready to campaign for better bike conditions even in adverse weather conditions. "We need the support of everyone who is interested in safe bicycle traffic in Wilhelmshaven," emphasized the organizers and participants. Because in a city in which even on streets with speed limits of 30 km/h, many cyclists switch to the sidewalk, the awareness of traffic safety is far from sufficient.
The end of the tour took place in the south family center, where the participants came together for tea, coffee and cake. An additional range of games had the children live out their creativity and tinkered paper planes, which the event rounded off.
The demonstration is part of a larger initiative to promote cycling and to improve bicycle conditions in Wilhelmshaven. "It is important that the children grow up in an environment where they can safely ride a bike," added Hasenmüller. With these events, the ADFC not only wants to increase security, but also strengthen the public awareness of the needs of cyclists. This follows a clear trend in many cities, where the safety of cyclists increasingly comes to the fore.
The success of this demo could be the crucial impulse for many further steps towards a bicycle -friendly city. It remains to be seen whether political representatives will finally react to the demands of the citizens, but the children have shown that the desire for security on the streets is unmistakable.
