Mayor call for donation: Help for war graves now necessary!
The Memorial Day stands at the door and thus also the annual house and street collections of the Volksbund German War Graves care. In this context, District Administrator Kai Seefried, who acts as district chairman, calls the population to participate in this important campaign together with the full -time mayors of the region. The aim is to support the care of the graves of fallen soldiers.
The fundraisers are organized by numerous volunteers from the Volksbund, reservists from the Bundeswehr and some schools in the district. It is a proven Tradition that the district administrator even stops by the Stader weekly market to actively collect donations. Seefried has also shown this in recent years. "A contribution of ten euros enables the care of a soldier's grave for a whole year," emphasizes the district administrator and thus appeals to the solidarity of the citizens.
The role of the Volksbund
The Volksbund Deutsche Wargräberfürsorge has been committed to maintaining and maintaining the graves of German war potter for many years. On behalf of the Federal Government, the organization is working on capturing the graves in Germany and abroad and keeping it up. The Volksbund looks after a total of 832 war graves in almost a hundred countries, more than 2 million graves, mainly by German soldiers. These graves are protected by international law and deserve special attention and respect.
"We commemorate the deceased, whose names and fates should not be forgotten. Every war grave site will also become a place of learning for history," said a spokesman for the Volksbund. The donations that are raised by the collection not only finance the care of the graves, but also the further research on war graves from the two world wars and the youth education work of the Volksbund.
On Saturday, November 16, a central memorial event in the Stade district is planned. At 4 p.m. this takes place in the garrison cemetery in Stade in Albert-Schweitzer-Straße. This year, the design of the event is in the hands of schoolchildren, which is a special element of integrating young people in the tradition of commemoration. The full program will be published shortly to inform the general public.
These actions remind you of honoring the dead and not losing sight of the dead. Donation campaigns such as these not only contribute to the care of the graves, but also to clarify and promote the idea of peace in our companies. Further information on the fundraising campaign can be found here .
