Future of the VW plant in Osnabrück in danger: Elektro-Porsche is missing!
The VW plant in Osnabrück is faced with an uncertain future after the desired takeover of an order for the production of an electric porsche no longer seems feasible. A spokesman for Volkswagen said that Porsche's business situation in China proves to be difficult, which means that the planned overflow production in the Osnabrück plant can no longer be guaranteed. This development was previously reported by the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung", which increases the concern about the future of the location.
Originally, the Osnabrück plant from 2026, after the current Porsche models have expired, was to start producing their electrical successors. The work was intended as a kind of backup for the Porsche stem in Stuttgart, where the capacities would not be sufficient to meet demand. With the loss of the expected follow -up order, however, the location could stand without a connection model from spring 2026.
The chairman of the works council expressed that the decision of the Porsche board was noted, but emphasized that the future of the work was not determined solely by Porsche. The employee side on the Supervisory Board remains committed to ensure that all works, including Osnabrück, receive perspectives for the future. This shows the endeavor to keep an eye on the well -being of employees even in difficult times.
Porsche is currently the central client of the Osnabrück location, which employs around 2,300 people. The models Cayman and Boxster have been manufactured there since April 2022. At the same time, the production of the VW T-Roc convertible, which also expires in 2026. The plans for the further use of the work are to be made in autumn, which increases the uncertainty for the employees. The VW spokesman confirmed that the future of the work was part of the annual planning that is due at the end of the year.
Volkswagen is under the pressure of high costs and an insufficient utilization of its production facilities. As a result of these economic challenges, the group no longer excludes company -related dismissals or even closures of works. This is a worrying view for the employees in Osnabrück, since the location is already the second small VW plant and was only integrated into the group in 2009 after Karmann's bankruptcy. Karmann had previously served as a manufacturer for VW for many years.
The situation around the Osnabrück plant reflects the current challenges of the automotive industry, especially with regard to the changes through electromobility and the associated market changes. The closure or restructuring of works can have far -reaching consequences for those affected.
The uncertainty is particularly noticeable, since the employees in Osnabrück are now worried about their perspectives for the coming years. The continuing discussion about Volkswagen's strategic decisions shows that there is a lot of change in the global automotive market. As reported www.faz.net, it remains to be seen which direction the company will ultimately take and how this will affect the various production locations, including Osnabrück.
