Peanuts in Lower Saxony: Bauer makes the impossible possible!
Kirchwahlingen, Deutschland - A farmer from the Lower Saxony Heidekreis wrote history! Steffen Meyer is the first farmer in Lower Saxony to successfully grow and harvest peanuts. These nuts, which usually thrive in the warm regions of Africa and South America, have now found their way into the Lower Saxony earth. With a lot of commitment and the support of his employee Lena Meyer, an agricultural student, a courageous step was dared to take the agriculture in the region.
raised in the greenhouse, the peanuts were put into the ground by Meyer and his team in mid -May. The harvest is now imminent, and a converted potato roter will be used to harvest the nuts, which grow slightly in so -called savings strains. "Of course, this now makes it easier for us to harvest," explains Meyer, who is actually a asparagus manufacturer. The first peanuts are already in sight and the joy of this success is great!
an innovative step in agriculture
The idea of growing peanuts in Lower Saxony was initiated by a feasibility study at the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences. Despite the initial skepticism of experts, the result was clear: the extension is possible! "In the end we were totally happy when we were able to hold the first real peanuts in our hands at the harvest," says Lena Meyer. The harvested legumes are now to be dried for three weeks before they are processed into oil. A regional customer, an ice cream factory, has already shown interest in the peanuts and plans to produce delicious peanut ice cream.
The interest in these "exotic" plants grows rapidly. Meyer has already received inquiries from the upscale gastronomy and plans to further expand the peanut cultivation. He already has new ideas for the next season to optimize the harvest. An exciting chapter in Lower Saxony has started!
