Help for children with cancer: Association in Vechta is urgently looking for donations!

Recently, the challenges faced by families of children with cancer have received particular attention. An association from Vechta fights tirelessly for these families in the districts of Oldenburg, Vechta, Diepholz and Cloppenburg. Many may not know that there are young children living in their neighborhood with serious diagnoses such as leukemia or brain tumors. Almute Klein, the chairwoman of the “Help for Children with Cancer Vechta” association, commented on this with compassion and emphasis.

“There are currently three affected children in the Wildeshausen area,” said Klein. Unfortunately, for personal protection reasons, she cannot reveal any further information. These families struggle against tragic circumstances, often have to travel long distances for treatment and endure strenuous operations without the certainty that everything will be okay again.

Comprehensive support for affected families

The association offers a variety of support options. Be it starter kits with necessary supplies, psychological therapies or simply conversations, the goal is to support the families. “We accompany families from the first diagnosis and are available for as long as they need our help,” says Klein. This support can sometimes extend beyond the death of a child, which shows the scope of the association's work.

The stress that parents and siblings experience as a result of a child's cancer is enormous. A cancer diagnosis often causes shock. Many people believe that cancer mainly affects older people or those with unhealthy lifestyles. But that is a mistake. “The reason why children are also affected by cancer is unknown,” explains Klein. While it was once often considered a death sentence, thanks to advances in medicine, many children can now be treated and only in a few cases are they left with serious disabilities.

Need for donations

The forms of therapy, which include chemotherapy and cortisone, are very stressful for the children affected. In addition, they are often hardly allowed to maintain social contacts with their peers, which can be incomprehensible to the youngest children. “We rely on donations to carry out our activities,” says Klein. The association can currently employ one part-time employee and has a small office in Vechta. But private financial support is essential for leisure activities and other important measures. If you would like to help, you can transfer your donation to the association using the IBAN DE57 2806 4179 0222 9994 00 and BIC GENODEF1VEC. Further information about the work of the association is available here to find.

It is important to become aware of the unrealistic ideas about cancer and to recognize that it also affects many children. The association is a contact point for support and community during this difficult time and shows how much good can be achieved with a small contribution.
