Wolf Committee in the Leer district: Court stops controversial approval!
In the Leer district it is bubbling! The planned removal of a problem wolf was stopped abruptly - a dramatic turning point in a heated dispute between animal welfare and flood protection. The wolf, which is held responsible for the death of numerous sheep and cattle, should actually be shot down on November 8th. But the exceptional permit is now on ice after the administrative court of Oldenburg has issued an injunction.
The situation escalated when the association "Society for the Protection of Wolves" made an urgent application to prevent the shooting. The court is expected to decide on this application at the beginning of the week. In the past few months, several administrative courts have stopped similar shots in the Aurich and Stade counties, which further fueled the debate about dealing with wolves.
wolves threaten dike security!
The situation is explosive: 20 wolf attacks on farm animals have been documented in the community of Jemgum since May. The number of cracks in the entire district of Leer is even more alarming. The responsible authorities face a dilemma: adequate protection of the extensive dikes by fences is neither feasible nor affordable. District Administrator Matthias Groote makes it clear that the security of the dikes is at risk because the sheep sets the ground when grazing. "People cannot understand why there is no shooting in this critical situation," said Groote. The clock ticks and the decision of the court could have far -reaching consequences!
