The hopes of Mick Schumacher to return to Formula 1 have burst! The traditional racing team Sauber awarded its free cockpit for the 2025 season to the Brazilian talent Gabriel Bortoleto. A bitter setback for the 25-year-old German who had hoped for a return.

The only 20-year-old Bortoleto will in future compete as a teammate by Nico Hülkenberg from Emmerich. This decision was announced on Wednesday by Sauber, the future Audi factory team. The team had previously announced the farewell of the previous drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. A clear cut that sets the course for a new era!

"ideal combination of experience and youth"

Mattia Binotto, managing director of Sauber, praised Bortoleto in the highest tones: "Gabriel has proven in the young categories that he has what it takes to become a win. With the combination of Hülkenberg and Bortoleto, the team sees itself well positioned for the future in motorsport.

Bortoleto crowned the master in Formula 3 in 2023 and currently leads Formula 2. Clean, on the other hand, describes him as one of the most promising talents of Formula 1. Mick Schumacher, who contested 43 races for Haas and was finally active as a test driver for Mercedes, remains without a cockpit. Another offer from Racing Bulls also seems excluded. A bitter moment for the son of the Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher!
