The 516th Gallimarkt is celebrated in the northern German city of Leer from 9 to October 13, 2024. This traditional folk festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year and is the largest folk festival in East Frisia. The opening on Wednesday is accompanied by three colorful heralds, which make the ceremonial prelude atmospheric.

However, the event begins early Wednesday morning with the cattle market, which takes place after a more than 500-year Tradition. Here the trade is still agreed by handshake today. In addition to the cattle market, visitors can expect around 250 rides and booths that shape the cityscape during the festival. The opening times are remarkable: the Gallimarkt opens on Wednesday until midnight, but on the following days until 1 a.m. and on Sunday until 11 p.m.

The official program of the Gallimarkt promises a colorful mix of entertainment and attractions. On the opening day, October 9th, the cattle market starts at 6 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. the Gallimarkt will then be officially opened in front of the town hall. The following days are also filled with various activities: On Thursday, the “Day of the Business”, as well as a meeting with popular characters such as Transformers and Disney characters.

A special highlight will be Friday, which ends with a spectacular fireworks display over the Leeran harbor at 10 p.m. On Saturday, visitors can take part in an atmospheric lampion trip in the commercial port. The crowning glory is a show service on Sunday at 10 a.m. before it comes to a Sunday open for sales in the pedestrian zone and in the shopping centers.
