Digitization in the Leer district: a ray of hope in times of crisis!

Landkreis Leer, Deutschland - In the Leer district, it is bubbling! While some areas are in the crisis, there is a bright ray of hope: digitization is booming! Despite financial worries, such as the impending minus of up to 25 million euros in the coming year, digital development will be seen as a true hope.

The district administration has big plans: by the end of 2025 all businesses and almost 95 percent of the 72,500 addresses in the district are to be supplied with lightning -fast internet. This means gigabit speed through conveyed glass fiber and coaxial cables. Only a tiny part, just 0.6 percent, will still have to live with slow internet in 2026. But the question remains: How many owners will actually make use of this free high -speed connection? The answer remains uncertain, because an evaluation of the connection quota is not planned. A little frustrating, right?

Digital Hub Ostfriesland as a model of success

Another highlight is the Digital Hub Ostfriesland (DHO), which develops rapidly into a center for digital innovations. With over 80 partners from business and science, the DHO becomes a hub for creative ideas and technologies. Especially the "Maker Spacer", a room full of the latest technology, is very popular with schools. To arouse even more interest, a "Maker Monday" is launched. The "digital weeks" are already attracting almost 1000 participants and showing that digital enthusiasm in the district is growing!

In addition, there is positive messages regarding the contracts in the funded area: The district has no obligation to make an obligation to increase with increasing costs, which is a relief in view of the current construction prices and inflation. After twelve years, it is even checked whether the grants of 15.5 million euros were necessary - maybe there will be money back!
