New divers for DLRG Holzminden: Training with challenges!
Holzminden. The DLRG local group Holzminden has reason to be happy! Two new divers, Fabian Schmitz and Marco Streicher have successfully completed their training and are now strengthening the team. This group of diving has been active since the 1980s and plays a crucial role in recovering goods and looking for people in water. The challenges are enormous, because the missions often take place in pouring and cloudy waters.
The training of the two Holzminden began in autumn 2023 under the guidance of instructor Holger Lüders. At the end of October, they competed together with other candidates from all over Lower Saxony for examination in the Heidesee near Holdorf in the Vechta district. The first hurdles were already waiting on Friday evening: a theoretical exam had to be passed, followed by a 1,500 meter long swimming test in the dark water of the lake.
The challenges of examination
On Saturday, ideal weather conditions continued with demanding apnea exercises. Here the candidates had to demonstrate that they could manage routes of 35 meters, 60 seconds and ten meters deep diving. In the afternoon, practical tests with a dive bottle followed at three stations: working under water, node science, a rescue exercise and finally a search for people with a set search pattern. With these new divers, the DLRG local group now has a total of seven members who are available in an emergency!
