Amelungsborn monastery: State -of -the -art heating technology for 900 -year -old walls!

Amelungsborn. In the almost 900-year-old Amelungsborn monastery has arrived a revolutionary heating system! A modern combination of air-water heat pump and wood pellet system replaces the outdated oil heaters. Abbot Eckhard Gorka and the monastery representatives cheer: up to 30,000 liters of heating oil are now saved every year! A huge step towards climate neutrality!

After three years of intensive planning, the installation was realized in just six months, all during ongoing events! "That went wonderfully," reports business manager Jürgen Antemann. But that was not all: Before installing, extensive archaeological studies had to be carried out, which revealed exciting finds such as parts of the monastery drainage. These historical treasures remained intact, while 600 meters of local heating line were laid.

The heat pump

The new heating system, which costs 700,000 euros, is generously supported by the regional church and the Federal Office for Economics and Export Control. The heat pump takes over the main load of the heating supply, while the wood pellet system is added if necessary. "It works like an upturned refrigerator," explains Michael Täubert from the Niehsen-Baumann engineering office.

The new technology is not only efficient, but also inconspicuous: the heat pump is hidden behind the southern wall of the monastery and works quietly. Abbot Gorka is enthusiastic: "We see the monastery with it well positioned." Since the end of September, the facility has been supplying the abbey house, the cantore, the library and the gatehouse. The monastery church is left out because it is hardly used in winter.

Future plans? A photovoltaic system could soon adorn the south wall and further reduce energy costs! "Such a system is an investment that will pay off," Gorka is certain. The monastery family is grateful to the executing companies for the impressive implementation. Founded on November 20, 1135, the monastery is now ready for the future with a state -of -the -art heating system!
