Customs finds: 12 tons of bed linen with false labels from China!

Zollamt Helmstedt-Autobahn, 38350 Helmstedt, Deutschland - A shocking incident occurred in mid-October when handling a huge delivery of Chinese bed linen in the customs office in Helmstedt-Autobahn, part of the main customs office in Braunschweig. A total of 12 tons were originally supposed to consist of 100% polyester, but the responsible customs officials discovered serious inconsistencies in the labels of the goods. Instead of the promised synthetic fibers, the "100% cotton" indicated on the labels!

The officials carried out a sample -like quality control and found mistakes in just two of a total of 775 boxes that questioned the entire batch. They immediately informed the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (Laves), which requested a sample to check the origin and nature of the bed linen. The entire cargo had to be unloaded, and 35 committed volunteers from the Technical Relief Agency (THW) from Helmstedt, Schöningen and Wolfsburg were on the spot to actively support the customs authorities.

The clarification of the falsification

The investigation of the laves finally confirmed what the customs officials already suspected: the bed linen was actually made from 100% polyester, but this did not match the faulty labels. This faux pas led to strict consequences! The laves immediately issued an arrangement for correcting the labels in order to show the correct composition of the textile fiber.

In the last few days, the umbrella was carried out with careful customs surveillance. In this way, the previously confiscated goods can now be left in terms of free traffic. An event that once again underlines the responsibility of the customs authorities and the importance of correct labeling!
