Helmstedt celebrates friendship: unforgettable experiences in Albuquerque!

Helmstedt. A group of 19 members of the Helmstedter Partnership Association (HPV) went on an exciting adventure to the USA! Her trip took her through the glittering metropolises of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas before entering the pulsating twin town of Albuquerque. There they experienced an unforgettable highlight.

As VIP guests, the Helmstedter were invited to the world's largest “Balloon Fiesta”! "The atmosphere was breathtaking when the over 200 balloons climbed into the sky every 30 seconds," enthuses Carsten Flohr, the city council commissioner of the HPV. The drone show and balloon glow were other spectacular highlights that will remember the guests for a long time. This unique event took place immediately after her arrival and set the perfect accent for her stay.

In the evening of the arrival, the Helmstedter were warmly welcomed with Margaritas and a Mexican dinner by Hedy and Ray Heidfeldt. "We are grateful for the invitation and the wonderful program," emphasized Flohr at the official welcome ceremony. As a sign of appreciation, the guests presented shirts and caps with the flags of the partner cities.

The trip also included visits to Santa Fe and on Sandia Peak as well as an official reception in the town hall of Albuquerque, where Mayor Tim Keller praised the importance of town twinning. The Helmstedter city council members Alexandra Girod, Margit Grune and Ferhat Kara were particularly honored. As a souvenir, they received from Albuquerque calendar with pictures of the "Balloon Fiesta" and festive Christmas tree decoration. After this exciting stay, the travelers returned to Germany with many new impressions. The city partnership between Helmstedt and Albuquerque, which has existed since 1983, has opened a new, exciting chapter.
