Welthaus Hannover: A place of encounter in difficult time!
Welthaus Hannover: A place of encounter in difficult time!
in Hanover has long been discussing the creation of a Welthaus, which is intended to act as a place of transcultural encounter and cosmopolitanism. According to the previous plans, both migrant and unable to migrate are to be included in the project. An event that dealt with the Welthaus project took place in the Faust cultural center in January 2023. In the spring of 2024, the project team undertook excursions to existing world houses in other cities to collect valuable suggestions.
The excursions led the team to several important facilities: The first stop was the House of Cultures in Braunschweig opened in 2013. Then they visited the Welthaus Bielefeld, which has been active for the global south since 1988, as well as the self -managed House of Cultures in Göttingen, which has existed since 1996. These visits served to win inspiration for the planned Welthaus in Hanover. In the summer of 2024, an exchange with the Hüttenstraße initiative in Vahrenwald/Hainholz, with the aim of broadening the transcultural project "Welthaus Hannover" and acquiring funding.
sponsorship and challenges
The sponsoring association Miso (migrant self-organizations-network Hannover e.V.), which was founded in 2012 with the aim of realizing a Welthaus in Hanover, has been in bankruptcy since the end of November 2024. In order to continue the project, a new establishment of an independent sponsoring association is being considered. However, it remains unclear whether enough interested parties and supporters can be found for this re -establishment.
MISO has been funded by the Lotto Sport Foundation since 2022 and pursues the goal of increasing the openness of the world and the common sense in Hanover. Planned activities for the announcement of the Welthaus are, among other things, a world pavilion, an information status in the uptake and participation in various events. Working groups were established on the topics of "Organization + Networking", "Cultural + Political Education" and "Social". Miso receives support from various institutions, including the Lotto Sport Foundation Lower Saxony, the municipal cultural office and the Hannover community foundation. Other supporters are sought to promote a sustainable “we-city society” together.
